Mother's Day in Thailand ...

12 August is the current Queen of Thailand's birthday (Queen Sirikit, born 1932). It is a National Holiday and this day also serves as Thai Mother's Day (Wan Mae Hang Chart), because the Queen of Thailand is regarded as the mother of all Thai people.

- It is traditional to give to your Mother and other women much older than you that want to show respect (Grandmother, Aunt, etc) gifts on this day

- Sons and Daughters usually give Phuang Malai (small, traditional, fragrant Thai Jasmine Flower Garlands that are symbols of sincere love, respect, appreciation and gratitude to elders). Bouquets of White Flowers or a Mix of White and Light Blue flowers are also very popular.

- White and Light Blue are the colours most associated with Mother's day in Thailand.

- Is your Mother or the Mother of your girlfriend/wife in Thailand? Impress her by sending lovely gifts from Isan Flowers to show her you know it is Thai Mother's Day !

NOTE: Do not give a Phuang Malai on Thai Mother's Day from yourself (buy for her children to give to her is OK). This is because Phuang Malai are expected to be given to Thai ladies only by people much younger than they are (their children, for example). If you give her one yourself, you may make her feel very old !!
